WHY DO WE DANCE?
Dancing has physical benefits, entertainment benefits, mental benefits and expressive benefits! People often times dance to express a message or a feeling or an emotion. REMEMBER, people express themselves through art, through sport, through health, through cooking, etc. ​

THE ELEMENTS OF DANCE
BODY

SPACE
• Personal Space/General Space 
• Size
• Level
• Direction
• Pathway
• Focus
ENERGY
• sharp (sudden)/smooth (sustained) 
• strong/light
• free/restrained
TIME
• fast/slow 
• rhythm
RELATIONSHIPS
• between body parts
• between dancers
• between dancers and objects
• alone/connected
• mirroring/shadowing
• unison/contrast
• over/under, around/through, on/off​
GUIDING QUESTIONS THAT MAY ASSIST:
BODY: Describe the performers’ posture, stance, expressions, eyes, hands, feet, etc.
LEVEL:  Standing, crouching, sitting, lying down? How do the levels change?
SPACE: Is there distance between performers? Why or why not?
TIME: Are people in sync or performing separately? Why are they performing in this fashion?
SOUND: Is there any talking, singing, music etc.? Why might it be included or excluded?
ENERGY: High, Medium, Low? Does the energy change throughout? Why or why not?
RELATIONSHIPS: Consider the relationships between performers… Positive? Negative? 
PROPS: Are there any props? What are they? Why might they be included?
FOCAL POINT:  Is there a focal point? If so, who is it and why?
