Really unpack your supporting examples/proof!

I like the characters in Sticky Burr because they are really cute. Their faces are cute.

vs.

The character Sticky Burr is really cute because of the simple emotions we can read off of his face. For example on page 6, Sticky Burr was being bullied. The illustrator drew two simple diagonal lines for eyebrows to show off how he was angry at Scurvy Burr. My brother sometimes slants his eyebrows at me when he is cross! Another example is Mossy Burr. On page 1, the illustrator gave her three strands of hair with a cute and playful pink barette clip to show that she's young and hip.

 PERSUASIVE WRITING
A TEXT FORM THAT ATTEMPTS TO CONVINCE SOMEONE AS TO WHY THEY SHOULD CONSIDER YOUR STRONGLY HELD OPINION

TUTORIAL VIDEO

TRY ORGANIZING YOUR PERSUASIVE PARAGRAPH IN THE FOLLOWING FASHION:

1) STATE YOUR POSITION ON A TOPIC/ISSUE/IDEA IN THE TOPIC SENTENCE

*I feel strongly that...
*I believe that...

2) PARAGRAPH BODY
Think of the *OREO* approach.

Try to include as many reasons with SPECIFIC examples that unpack your thinking. (Slime can help someone feel less nervous during a test. For example instead of nervously  spending their energy tapping their foot on the ground and distracting others, they can spend that nervous energy on stretching and pulling that slime or putty)

Rebut your opponent's arguments and use their thoughts against them. (My opponent might say ABC but did they consider XYZ?)

Don't forget transition words! Make sure you use your Writer's Toolkit and try as well to throw in some similes, metaphors, adjectives, adverbs, onomatopoeia words to spruce things up!

3) SUMMING UP YOUR STANCE IN YOUR CLOSING SENTENCE
*Strongly repeats your overall opinion. Invite the reader to join you in your beliefs and perhaps include mention of where you can get more information supporting your opinion  or where to sound off!
